First Mate and I hit the water at 06:00… nice , cool, a little breeze from the SW… went to a favorite spot where Jake’s cove enters Big Bay and set up a drift… quite a few boats near the towers , but not many where we were until we started to put fish in the boat… first one at 6:30 then one every 20 minutes or so, until about 7:30… kept 4 for dinner and then went “scouting” awhile… got to take the grand kids on a “swim and picnic” trip in a couple of weeks, so went looking for a quiet cove… finally back in Big Bay , out from the condo’s… marked a bunch down at 40 to 60 ft in abt 80 ft of water ±…picked up one more and then saw the rain headed out from Bear Creek side, at least that’s what it looked like it was going to do, so went on in to Jakes about 9:15 or so… nice morning except that when I loaded " Mangowillie" back on the trailer, a filleted striper that was drifting and stinkin got caught on the bunks between the hull… pulled out and then saw it hanging down and had to back down the ramp and re-launch , then try again !! sure am glad that I saw that thing hanging before I got to Red Bank !! Hope every one had as nice a morning as we did…
GW, glad yall had a good morning. I sat home not wanting to fight the crowd. Dont you just love it when the boats start piling around the guy catching the fish. Actually it doesnt bother me too bad if they use good skills using the trolling motor to ease in close. What burns me up is when 5-10 boats are on the fish, everyone’s catching a few fish, hootin and hollaring, high fiving each other, then some dumbbutt cant resist and comes trolling through the middle of all the boats. I once was at the towers when one of these trolling fools busted through so close he snagged about three boats down lines. Those poor guys were tied up for a long time trying to untangle all the lines. The guy didnt even say he was sorry. Thank Goodness he didnt snag my lines, I have a short fuse. Sometimes I think it’s fun to go out in the middle of the lake and stand up, cask a few times, jump down, start the motor, run 50 yds, jump up cask a few times. Next thing you know I have 5 other boats following me trying to chase fake schoolers. Yeah I know, it’s a dirty trick. It’s a personality flaw.
Magna… exactly !! really no problem Sat. AM, but one guy did troll right near us… I could have tossed a 1 ounce weight in his boat, but I restrained myself…some folks just don’t know, but most that I have seen try and act right, but sometimes … well , you know… as for the “fake” school, I have done the same, or worse… put about 8 ounces of weight on a fairly light rod and pull up and crank hard… looks just like a striper taking the bait !!
