We left out of Savannah saturday and headed to the ledge. We fished aboard the Rock n Reel with my friends captain sam vick, owner Bob House, Bert and Myself(Jason Roundtree).
First line in the water about 8:00a.m. . We were never able to find a good weedline. After trolling in 225 feet of water for about 45 min. we had our first run, it was something with a lot of teeth as it cut through a 100 lb. leader and our dolphin candy in a hurry. We got our first blue and gold about 30 minutes later, a 16 pounder on the long line on a green seawitch. We later came by a floating paper plate in the water, as soon as the spread passed by the right flat line went off and a 34 pounder started it’s dance, we landed it with little trouble. We later landed a 38, 31 and a 29 pounder. Fish seemed to like pink, black/Orange, black/purple. We also were able to land succesfully a 4 1/2 foot sailfish(Bert’s first Billfish) that put on a great show. He bit a Black/Pink islander. We lost 2 dolphin total 1 came after the line came off of the outrigger and got wrapped around the rod tip before we could even grab it. For the most part it sounded like we had as good of a day as any other boat at the ledge. We headed back toward the snapper banks to try and jig up some reds to top off the boat but the wind kicked up earlier than expected and the drift was too fast even with a 18 ounce weight.
