Finally got a day to head out. (11:00 56f 8mph out off N)Got to landing on the rising tide, windy as all get out. You had to really want it on a day like this. Heading out in the sound was ok, windy was causing my tail to weather cock pretty bad. After paddling mostly on the right side of the yak for 20min,I made it to an offshoot right before the IAC near Dewey’s. I’ve had a new reel for two weeks, so I was itching to chuck it. its been 10 years or so since i threw a baitcaster, but I think I did ok. I snapped on a 1oz plug and let her fly. A couple good casts and 3 good nests you could lay eggs in. Ha ha, not bad for and open face, no levelwind, and no braking reel(Avet MXJ). Well as I was starting to get pretty good with it, the black clouds rolled in. Temperature dropped 10 degrees in about 10min. Decided to head back. What a workout! I love my Ride135, but what a pig in a 15mph headwind. 1-3 foot white caps, never thought “turtling” would ever be a concern at Copahee but water come coming over the bow. Tide was going out and wind in my face I made my way across the sound. 1hour later, and a few Wilhelm Screams to keep myself pshyced and I was back at the the ramp.
(14:00 42f 15mph w/20mph gusts out off NE) Hosed everything off and grabbed some hot coffee. Days like this make you appreciate the good ones. Best of luck to those heading out tomorow. I’ll be at the Hatchery on Lake Moultrie March 3rd if anyone wants to kill some Largemouth.
