Sat Phones

abybody bring a satellite phone offshore with them? i always have a VHF and epirb with me (as one should offshore) but am considering getting a sat phone as well to stay in touch with the hill in those not so dire situations. any recommendations are appreciated. it would only be used about 3-4 months out of the year so probably not looking to spend a fortune on monthly plans with lots of minutes

Got one last year, and the ability to call and check in provides a very secure feeling for us offshore as well for those getting the calls at home. Got ours through Satmodo and the customer service is Excellent. You buy your plan, phone, sim card, everything through them and when they ship it to you everything’s already set up and its ready to go. Complete with clear instructions for dialing from and to the satellite phone.

I got one this year for the upcoming season. Like the Epirb, it’s something I hope not to use but I’m glad to have it.

Any ideas on the SPOT sat phone? I don’t have an epirb but I do use a SPOT. It works well for checking in. Just wondering how much the service for the sat phone would be. ???

Just a branded Globalstar phone. Rates are posted on website.

First- I’d never go to the ledge without minimum an EPIRB-

My wife appreciates the Sat phone, although its not completely necessary- I do like having it. I got one from Amazon- Blue Ion I believe. There is no monthly fee- I bought 180 minute package, and won’t have any other costs until I use those minutes.

I like that idea.
