What do y’all consider a small boat for the type weather coming in? I’ve avoided the 15 knot SW winds in my 34’ but have seen these Sportfishing boats are still making it out and back. Just curious where the size makes it doable with comfort.

Time and time again I’ve seen salty make the right call,if I still had my Bertram , I would just ask him instead of studying all them sites.

It’s not the SW wind at 15 knots, it’s the 40-50 shear line you get with nothing blocking it off a storm. You can watch them and say let’s move and we’ll outrun it or go around, then there’s another cell right behind it in your path. Seas get churned up and things get dangerous. Throw in some hail on a CC and you have a bad situation. If they’re cancelling the Meatfish Slam in Gtown because of weather concerns, my boat is staying on the lift.

I got caught in one of those storms in a Pioneer 222sf, I respect the sea a lot after riding that out. I was a mile off the coast, saw I wasn’t going to outrun it, turned bow in, dropped the anchor and watched it go from 2’ to 5’ with the wind shearing the tops of the waves off. I’ve been out other times and had lightning hit so close we got splashed. That’s close enough for me, I’ve been lucky but God’s given me some sense through being careless and stupid.

You have to decide what you want to do and what’s within your limits. I’ll wait for another day. We’ve had some nasty storms up this way this week.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
