Saturday 3/22/report

Me and Welshtrustee went out to see if we could finally catch some fish with bait. On water around 9:30 but didn’t catch anything till we ended up in Bear Creek around 3:00. We were about to give up when WT said lets just pick a cove and put some baits down. We caught about 15 fish with 4 keepers in only a couple hours. Thanks again to Murraymaker and some others who gave us some good information over the last few weeks.

We have never before just picked a cove fishing blind and caught fish. Hope it wasn’t a fluke.

Glad to hear yell got on some fish… did you put any extra effort in bait care?

This time of yr sometimes all u can do is just pick a spot and fish. Fish are literally everywhere. We caught the majority of our fish yesterday in 10’ or less with the bigger ones coming in less than 5’ of water…we’re yall pulling boards or downrods?

Yes, we let the air pump run some before we put bait in the tank and used foam off for the first time. Also, we cleaned the filter several times throughout the day. Bait looked great till end of the day. We fished 6 rods for first time and all fish caught on boards and freeline. I would say we caught fish from 10’-50’ of water in that cove. Go figure.

Good job, Agent. It’s called paying your dues, but one has to dig and inquire to gather the knowledge and then have the confidence to apply it. Experience also helps. The dividends are sweet. Our next objective is to step up our game and cross from the “almost” double-digit size fish to what Chip and several of the other “good” fishermen often bring in.

It was a great day there at the end. We also had several fish miss our baits but the water explosions were exciting. In fast, two of our fish were hooked in the meat between their dorsal and head. As agent said, I think the bait was the trick. Thanks to all those who offered tips on agents last thread. We also hooked the bait thru the mouth and then one nostril. For the first time, we only had one bait die in the tank. Never thought foam off could make such a difference. One other change was that we changed the direction of the water flow of the bait tank to go with the walls of the tank, not pointing at the closet wall. Maybe that eased the current??

Exciting day. Thanks to all who chimed in.

Sounds like y’all really got on them. That is another thing about these fish, once you find them you may end up with your limit in a few minutes especially when the five and done rule kicks in. I never really got on the fish this weekend, picked up a few here and there but nothing to write home about.
