Saturday 6/22 weather...

After last Saturday morning’s fiasco of getting my brains beat in by the nasty NE wind, does anyone have any thoughts on this Saturday.

Both reefcast and NOAA let me down last weekend.

Yes that forecast was a bust. I was just looking at it and right now and from reefcast I was thinking Friday was the day. Then from the NOAA offshore forecast it looks like Saturday and Sunday are the days with Sunday haveing a lower chance of thunderstorms. So if I were to guess I would say Sunday.

Then again its Wednesday so we have now jinxed us all.

Looks to me like as of right now Sat and Sun look good. We are giving it a go Sat unless things turn bad before then.

Where is a courtland weather prediction when you need one.

When are some of you going to learn not to talk about it until Friday afternoon at the earliest. You have to sneak up on it and keep quiet, ninjer style. You weather worriers talk about it and it goes to &@&$t at the last minute.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Thinking of giving it a go Saturday as well. Will leave Remleys around 5 ish. Weather borderline for me at moment though.

I hope it is perfect for you all. I will be working. A few phrases I don’t like in the full written forecast. Trough/wedge pattern/convection/tightening gradient. Conditions could be highly variable from one locale to another. Poke your nose out and have a plan B.

Actual NOAA forecast:

FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY…A COASTAL TROUGH WILL DEVELOP ALONG THE
STALLED BOUNDARY BY FRIDAY…WHILE HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS FROM THE
NORTH INLAND. THIS PATTERN COULD PRODUCE A MODEST PRESSURE
GRADIENT OVER THE WATERS…WITH WIND SPEEDS PEAKING AROUND 15 KT
AND WAVES BUILDING TO 3 TO 4 FT. SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE
WILL LIKELY BE HIGHEST LATE IN THE WEEK DUE TO ENHANCED CONVERGENCE
WITHIN THE COASTAL TROUGH. ONCE THE COASTAL TROUGH SHIFTS
INLAND…AND HIGH PRESSURE SETTLES OVER THE ATLANTIC…CONVECTIVE
POTENTIAL WILL DIMINISH. WITH THE MARINE ZONES ON THE PERIPHERY OF
THE ATLANTIC RIDGE…WINDS WILL ALSO BECOME MORE SOLID SOUTHERLY
INTO THE EARLY WEEK PERIOD.

Thanks man!

Yes, thanks Courtland! That NOAA forecast has a lot more details than the one I’m used to. Any chance you would post a link? I’d like to bookmark it.

Look people, I’m not fishing Saturday or Sunday, therefore seas will be calm, and the huge fan in the sky will turn off! But all jokes aside everything I looked at (nws, reefcast, sail flow) all look good. Y’all catch them up!

Read the top summary before you skip down to the day you want. It’s in every forecast.

Read the entire thing. It will often be updated 4-6 times per day, more in active weather. You will find things in the aviation forecast and land forecast that may not “jive” with the marine. They tend to spend more time on the land forecasts than the marine one. They don’t care if it is 2’ or 4’. That won’t impact average vessels and life, limb and property.

If the various forecasts are not consistent, don’t go. Sometimes they even say, " Forecast confidence is low for the following period". As a general rule it does not blow from the North here at less than 15kts… I will never plan a trip any with any “N” in the forecast, it’s just not worth it.

Click on the buoy’s to the north and south of us. If it is blowing 15kts at Diamond Shoals to the North then there is going to be some waves regardless of what it is doing at Edisto.

Monday/Tuesday look good right now.

41004 is lookin a little sporty! If it doesnt calm by this afternoon, I am gonna be cruising the creeks.

This weekend looks like a washout to me. Going to keep it inside the jettys.

The NOAA 20 nm forecast is giving 2-3 forecast but the NOAA graphical forecast says 5 ft… ?..

Steady E/NE winds early AM swing more SE by dawn as the trough is pressed onshore. shower activity likely to persist offshore and along the coast but severe storm are not favored in this pattern, best chances for strongest storms near the ledge and along the coast/inland. Sea state will be aggravated early but even out as the day progresses, would not expect anything less than 3ft from at least 2 directions confusing it, with the primary wind wave early being the much maligned NE/ENE. that all being said it will be fishable in a big boat or smaller very well riding boat, get beat up early, then much less beat up later. freebie.

Heading home to bolt the tidal rails on tonight!!!
