Headed out of Remleys at 0500, on the way out we dodged one storm, but ran thru the edge of the other one, and got nice and rained on. Swore we saw a water funnel off in the far distance on the big system.
Finally got out to where we were going and dropped lines at a nice rip and decent weed line. Put the lines out and instantly got a hit and was gone, reeled in the line and had gotten bit off. Trolled some more and got a nice gaffer pretty quick. Current was ripping thru there and we were going about 8-9 Knots with the current, but 3-4 against. Put two more slingers in the box but had to work pretty hard to get them. Crew had to clear lines a lot as the weed line was patchy. Ended up raising a marlin and took a swat at the bait, but didn’t hook up.
Things died down and the weed line dissipated so decided to call it quits and head in for some groceries. Had some new friends on the boat that never had been offshore fishing or caught anything, so threw out a whole squid about 20’ down at the Comanche so they could catch Amberjacks. After everyone got their 1 in the boat picture and release, we decided to head back in.
Overall a great day of fishing.
