Well one of my rare off weekends for High School Football so myself and broadcast partner and our wives headed to our house at IOP for some fall bull reds
I actually bought fresh mullet in Anderson Thursday before we came down just in case pogies were scarce
We hit the water 9 am Friday and deployed crab trap for Saturday’s bait and onto the rocks. Threw net a few times but not much, pogies seemed very scattered
Pulled up to South End of Rocks about 300 yards from the end and set out lines with fresh cut mullet
IT WAS ON, biggest of the day was about 36" and also caught about 25-30 BSB ALL UNDER 13"
Ended day with 5 nice big reds
Went back Saturday am and crab pot was FULL, BULL RED CANDY
Back to same general area at the rocks and again BSB were loving shrimp but reds really did not want to cooperate. My goal was a 40"+ for my Buddy since his largest was 36"
Did catch 2 bonnetheads and one weighed 22lbs on the boga, huge fat bonnethead
Well about the time I opened my first beer rod doubled over and IT WAS ON AGAIN
I could tell right away by the angle of the line it appeared to be a red but was not too sure.
I tool some video with phone and turned my back and he hollered, HUGE RED
Video back on and got nice video of big bull red coming to boat
Got him with Boga grip and 42"+(never did get him completely straight to measure but saw he was well over 40" and that was all I needed).
Got some nice video and great pics on iphone but got to figure out how to post them on here from that
Great day on the water and nice supper with the Ladies at Shem Creek Bar & Grill
Does not get any better than that
