Saturday in columbia

I’ve got a meeting up in columbia sat morning and wanted to try and do some wade fishing for the rest of the day. I’ve been up under the dam and caught some trout. I was just looking for a spot or too that does not get an extreme amount of pressure. I was plan on bringing my fly rods so not restricted to striper. Trout or smallmouth spots would be good too. Thanks guys!

I was also wondering if anyone knew of a flyshop up that way. Thanks!

I don’t know of a fly shop in this area. Dicks and Sportsman’s Supply have some flies and material. As far as fishing from shore goes it is very limited once they are in the Saluda. I guess Saluda Sholes Park would be the best bet. The Zoo used to be a good spot but I’ve heard they blocked off all of the access. I’ve caught fish right on the ramp at Metts Landing, but it’s more miss than hit. I used to do good up above there but they have posted the property.

I’m not sure if there are any 'flyshops" around like the ones down your way, but you may want to stop by Barron’s down on Harden St. I don’t remember his name, but there is at least one guy there that does alot of local flyfishing and can probably help you out.

No fly shops around here like there are im Charleston. Barrons I belive has some but I dont know if they are open on the weekends. Sportsmans warehouse would probably have enough to get you by.

Pm user LOON on here if your looking for some really nice striper flies. He may be able to sell ya some quick.

As far as fishing locations its kinda tough from the bank. But if you are willing to do some wading you can get on some really nice fishing. You can park on the west columbia side by the Gervais st bridge. Walk UP the river walk as far as you can go then get into the water. Start working your way over to all the islands and rapids areas. The farther you go up the better. You can get into stripers (not very big), largemouth, and smallmouth. The columbia smallmouth bite has really taken off this year.

Also there Is the option of the 3 rivers greenway park. Get on River dr headed towards columbia. As soon as you pass wray automotive and cross the broad river take your first left and follow that road till it dead ends into a parking area. Follow the side walk back across the canal and drop down over the hill to the river. From here all the way down to gervais bridge is good smallie area. Check out google earth to find areas that you want to target. The closer you can get to where the saluda and broad meet the better. If you look on google they call this area old bates river or something like that. But before getting to that area this is plenty more productive areas along the way. But like I said you have to do some wading. Its not deep water but there is some deep holes. Cross at the rapids.

Hope this helps.
