Went out with steve last night and we got skunked. Fished from 6 till about 11 with one hit. Cruised around for over an hour looking for fish and only saw very scattered fish. Marked some fish and bait along the dam up around 20’ but they wouldn’t hit. I guess all the boat traffic and front had them shut down. Talked to four other boats that were skunked as well
We had a slow morning fishing the river in the kayaks. 2 of us and we only got 2 rainbows and 2 stripers between us in 4 hrs of fishing. Guys with live bait are still getting the stripers pretty good though. Seems like they are hanging around longer than normal this year for some reason.

Don’t feel bad … Same here but not for lack of biting fishing … Decided to get the kids use to artificial top water bite so we didn’t get any bait … Got a late late start so we didn’t get on the water until 11ish … we pulled up in front of Spence around 11:30ish … I’m tying on the 2nd popper when the first school surfaced just 40 feet away … mad scramble to finish tying and pull the boat up a little … chuck the poppers out there and one hooks up … reeling in and somehow it gets side hooked so now dragging a thrashing fish through the water - sideways … it gets 20 feet away and SNAP fish AND popper are gone … the friggin terminal tackle (I use Snap Swivels rather than tie everything on) pulled apart … sooooooooooooooo if anyone finds a floater with a new Blue on Silver 1OZ popper - its mine … …
Anyways, met up with Murraymaker to trade some lead (and dinner - big thanks for that) and some conversation … we split up and we came across the topwater only a couple more times (once at Spence and another over at Beaverdam) … oh yeah, and I broke one of my Fluger rods … … whatever, I have spare Ugly Sticks … just sucked for sentimental purposes (the previous owner has passed away) …
All in all it was a nice day on the water … met some good people … found some topwater fish … lost a lure, a rod, and some gas … still not trading it for a day on dirt …
it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish now!!!
