Left Edistio beach around 645 and spent almost 4 hours trying to get out to the EB banks. Was rough on the lil 20ft Pioneer but me and Dad made it. Lines in at 10 am and First fish some 15 minutes later. 16 lb Bull dolphin. Almost 2 hours later only had 2 other strikes and no fish. Was wondering what was up seeing as all the boats on the radio were catching multiple fish with multi hook ups. At approximately 12 me and dad decided to troll til 1 and head in for a few minutes of bottom fishing. 15 minutes later we had a huge fish hit the only 6/0 reel. Was trolling a Garnet and black skirt with a med ballyhoo with a steal leader. She jumped 6-8 times while dumping half the line off the spool. Fought her for 45 minutes before we even touched the leader, and another 15 before we could get her close enough for the release. Revival took another 45 minutes. Thanks to the Captain who gave me the advise on how long to work on said revival of the fish. It was well worth the effort when i watched the estimated 250-300 lb Blue swim away to fight another day. Needless to say I am sore this morning and elated on my first ever billfish. More to follow I hope.
very impressive. it was a high sea for a 20’ bote. i’m sure your knuckles are sore today.

The advise was to keep trying to revive her until she showed no signs of life…hence the long attempt…it was well worth the effort. The pics were taken on a disposable camera that has yet to be developed. Yes it was rough but we know our equipment and our abilities. We take all the necessary precautions( ie float plan, vhf, seatow, routine maintenance, etc etc.) Thanks for the concern.
