The wife and I put in at the Dawhoo around 9:30 on Saturday and fished the outgoing, low, and incoming tide till about 5:30. We each caught a pretty nice 18" red at our first spot which was it for the day, although wife did land two pups, (14" and 15") and hooked a big boy that spit the hook at the boat. Weather was beautiful and the predicted 10-15 NE wind really never kicked in, but probably played a big part in the lockjaw. We had mud minnows, finger mullet, and shrimp. I also tried several types of Gulp shrimp and other artificials. Both of the kept fish were victim to mud minnows. Water was stained to dirty everywhere and the tide did not go fully out due to the NE wind. Water temp was 77- 80 degress depending on the spot. All fish caught or hooked on Cajun Thunder floats with minnows. We threw a bottom rig out when anchored but only fed the crabs.
We now have almost 12 hours on the new boat, so the obligatory first service is coming due. it actually felt more like 90 degress in the sun and the slight breeze and occasional passing cloud were welcome. Really wanted to fish on Sunday due to weather conditions, but enjoyed Father’s Day at home with family and grandkids. Tight lines to all, Mike.
