Set it up with a buddy from work to show him some spots on the Wando. We took his boat, a real nice older Wahoo. I had hit Haddrells for some super-fish-calling mudders and shrimp. We met up at Wappoo and away we go. He wanted to run from Wappoo. Set up on the first spot and land a nice 19" redfish right off the bat. Then followed with a 21" (both on live shrimp) and then it slowed down. Tooled up a creek and landed a nice 20" trout on a paddle-tailed grub in Chicken on a Chain with a yellow tail. Went back to the docks for the incoming. Having read the earlier posts, I will share my story. My buddy is pretty new to fishing and I am always fussing at him to use the rod holder. Especially when using my gear. Well I had just put a live shrimp on the bottom (Carolina rigged)and turned around to get my fingermullet re-postiioned when…wham! My rod goes over the side. I’m cussing like a sailor because It’s a pretty nice setup with a Shimano Sahara reel and Shimano rod (about $200 worth of setup).
So I grab an extra rod and rig up a treble hook with a good weight and go “fishing” for my rod. After about 20 minutes, I decided to write the rod off as gone. So I re-rig my treble hook rod and notice that my fingermullet rod is kinda twitching a bit. So I pick it up in anticipation and feel an odd tug. Decided a crab had grapped my mullet, so I decided to reel it in and check it. Wrapped around the weight is a strand of “new” looking power-pro. My buddy says “hey that might be your line”. Sure enough, it was. Pulled it up and there was my rod. Got the rod in hand and reeled in the line and attached was a 22" redfish. The dock owner came back and my buddy relayed the story and he lent me his waterhose to rinse the reel thoroughly. The third member of the expedition also landed a 15" red that was was released. My buddy did hook up with a trout that he lost at the boat and a good sized redfish that broke him off after a good, but short fight. He claimed it was the “day maker” fish. But I told
