Saturday PM

I had some friends from the mountains down this weekend and they wanted to catch flounder. They fished with a guide Saturday am and got 2 bull reds, but not flatties or trouts. We put in about 2 and ran to the secret honey hole. Got a lot of nice mullet, but no decent sized skrimps for bait. We waited unitl the tide started to rise to put out lines but when we did, it was on for about 2 hours. First fish was a bull red at 36" Next was a slot red. Then the flounder started. We put 2 19" fish in the boat, then a rod got hit hard. As Trey reeled it in, it took some drag and began to fight. He though it was a red, but I knew better. He ended up having an 24" 8lb flounder on that line. We ended up with 6 flatties and a slot red for the guys to take home. I’d say that’s a good 2 horus of fishing. We didn’t see another boat until we were about to leave. I love my honey hole!!! LOL I’ll post a pic later.

Here’s the flounder.

theres some good holes in cherry grove, but only one really really good red and flounder hole…

Yeah, I used to fish CG a lot, but I got tired of several things there. I still go some, but not like I used to. This year, I have really worked on learning Little River, and I think I’ve done a pretty good job. Looking at my records, I’ve boated 54 keeper flounder on 17 trips. That’s 3.18 per trip. The largest was 9 lbs 1 oz and a close second was 8lbs even. Not too bad, in my book. Too bad I gave most of the fish to folks who came with me. That’d be a freezer full of flounder to take us through the winter. We only kept about 10 redfish this year that were deephooked or a friend just wanted one for food. And then 2 trout were kept. To me that’s a decent summer of fishing in a place that is not supposed to hold numbers of fish. Hopefully the fall will bring em on even better. Good luck to all.

agree, cg dont get fished as much by me. i enjoy lr more…
