Anyone put lines in the water yesterday? I got stuck at the house all day and didn’t get to go but was wondering if anyone had any luck.
I got out in the evening and fished till 2:30. Trolled a U-rig and stretch 25+ from 7 to 8:30 without a hit. Located some fish on a point on the lexington side of the channel. Started fishing down lines and a freeline at 8:30. Missed two pull downs and caught one short fish. Picked up phishinphan after the gamecocks game and he got a catfish. The herring on the freeline stayed very lively the entire time out and had one hit. Just wanted to add that he brought a zebco 33 to troll for stripers.
Saturday 6pm-midnight. Calm water, a good breeze, no moon. There was almost no one on the lake. Saw some trollers, everytime they passed in front of us - we caught a fish. We actually ran out of bait, 36 BBs. I lost count and don’t know how many we actually boated but we only kept 3 - 27,28,22. The rest were 18 - 20 1/2. A really enjoyable evening.
Imcleod,
Were you tied up to the towers. I did not see many boat other than the two tied to the towers and some guys trolling. How deep were you fishing.

HA! good one steely. zebco… lol… it was actually a shakespeare synergy!
We were having such a good time, we just decided to tie to the towers. Why move when you are catching fish? We were in the 17’ Key West. Amazingly, the fish were at 35 feet. Can you believe that? And, they hit dead or live bait!
I think I might have seen some of ya out there on Sat night. I was in a 23’ Key West with the blue t-top.
I guess I was fishing too deep. I was the guy that rolled by you about midnight and asked if you were catching any. I guess the lake turned over. Some cool weather should get them schoolin any time now.
Steve,
did you catch anything? Were you trolling? I sent you an email, did you get it?

how often did u check your herring? we tried different depths all night and anything deeper than say 10’ lasted maybe 5 - 10 minutes. freeline and shallower than 10’ lasted a good long while. i can definitely believe the depth, especially given what has been happening to our bait deeper than say 15’. the fish are where the oxygen is.
It seems everyone is fishing at night. Is this because the daytime bite has been so slow or personal preference? If I went out, where could I get live bait on the lake at night?

better bait closes at 7 on weekdays, 8 on friday and saturday, and 5 on sunday. I just think beer taste better at night, and that is what it is really about.
beer’s not that bad in the a.m. either…time stops when you’re fishin’ and somehow it just seems ok to pop a cold one
The more you fish, the better you lie.

it seems everyone is having problems catching the fish…the talk at the meeting tonight was not good…it seems the hot water has got them in the “doing nothing” trend…people are marking fish…but the fish are not biting…they reported catching more fish in the 20’ to 40’ range…the bait can stay alive longer…
Everyone is waiting on rain and cooler temperatures…
Well, I guess that makes me feel better. Phishinphan and I gave up and tried to catch some cats Saturday night and I could not even do that. Still fun trying though, at least I caught one and had a few pull downs.

It’s ALWAYS 5’o-clock somewhere! I hope the fish pick up soon. I’ve got offshore buddies coming from Chas. in a couple of weeks and s**t will be talked if we don’t put fish in the boat…regardless of how many empty cans get put in the transom.

Looking at the forcast, the nights will be in the 60’s and the days are not as hot. Things should pick up by then. I would guess that they will be schooling by then. Since you are new to striper I will explain. The striper school up and push the schools of shad to the surface. Circles of fish splashing all over pop up all over in the morning an evening. All day on cloudy days. Throw surface plugs and bucktails with an ice fly trailor hook. Seems like bigger fish stay below.
Last winter, before I got the boat, I used the bucktail-icefly rig off the dock in my cove.
