We made the usual Dawhoo Landing to “our” spot run just in time to catch the turning of the incoming tide. We were anchored and in position by 8:20 AM. Action was pretty good for nearly two hours, but everything we caught was under slot reds and one small flounder. Something big broke off on the heavy bottom rod and the wife had a shark get off at the boat.
We bought some floats that we saw advertised on the WFN show and they worked pretty good. These floats have removable tops that allow you put little beads and weights into the two exposed chambers and then reseal. The noise is pretty amazing. They attach to your line by wrapping line around the bottom and top flanges so they are easily adjustable as well.
Great day on the water as it was pretty calm going and returning and the breeze did help with heat and humidity. After the bite stopped, we tried a few more spots, but the tide was in the grass and the fish weren’t interested. A friend from work and his wife stopped by to say hello and after that we left to go home. Made one stop at Pine Landing, but nothing happening there either. Bait of the day was live shrimp under the new corks. Water temp. was 83- 85, SW wind at 5 to 10, and an incoming tide.
As I have opined in the discussion forum, the lack of slot reds and over slot reds is a bit troubling to me. This is the second weekend in row that the majority of our catches have been under slots reds, albeit there were lots each time. Maybe this a good sign as we head into fall and winter.
Tight lines to all and be courteous and Safe out there, Mike.
