Saturday report...

If you want to call it that. Got some really nice herring & shad from Better Bait about 9:30 or so.
I put in at Larry Koon & was going to head to Buffalo Creek. About half way, I realized that I’m still having water pump issues. I idled (seems to work fine at idle up to about 1/2 throttle) over to the mouth of Crystal Lake & started marking fish. Out went a couple of boards and a couple of floats. I had some hits within a few minutes, but they were dropping the baits after a second or two. I did manage to bring in one short about 12" on a planer.

Catch of the day was when one of my float rods started screaming & bent over double. Man, I thought I had a monster fish! After a couple of minutes, I could see the line heading for the surface. Next thing you know, a loon came up for a breath & went back down, with my hook in him! It took me a good 10 minutes to get him to the boat. I got him to the transom, snatched him by the neck & found the hook right in the upper breast. I got it out and he was released unharmed to fight another day.

That was it. I fished till 1:30 or so and headed for the ramp.

Did the loon not make 21"! Hope you get your waterpump fixed.

It was 21" for sure, but after all the turkey this week, I’m ready for something besides bird to eat.

Sounds very similar to our day yesterday on the lower end. Fished with my cousin and only had one hookup that broke off close to the boat and several stolen baits and missed hits. Wondered if they were perch hitting the shad that we were using. Toughest day I’ve seen in a long time.

Spoon, did a guy trolling for stripers in a center console talk to y’all as he passed? It would have been just after you lost that fish right at the boat.

Don’t remember anyone talking to us yesterday when we lost it. We were in a 20’ pontoon near an island pulling boards and a cork at the time.
My cousin said they bit a lot better today. Sorry I couldn’t get away to go with. Sounded like a very good day on the water.

Yea they bit this afternoon. Rusty and I caught 17 keepers in 3.5 hours, including his personal best of 10-12 pounds. We also had one come unbuttoned that may have been bigger. It was a fun outing.

The week I fished with my brother we did real good with deep running stick baits off of yellow birds and flat lines. Tried bait but could only connect with white perch. Thinking about my next trip and what caught my eye running boards and ““CORK””. What is a Cork?

JZO, the cork is basically a big styro cork with a release on it. I run my far out the back of the boat with a gizzard shad. Google ready rigs. They should have these at Lake World at the dam I’m sure.
