Fished mid lake yesterday on the Lexington side. Whitecaps were everywhere. We were pretty much limited to fishing spots out of the wind. Managed 23 perch, 2 nice largemouth (1 over 7 lbs.), 1 cat over 8 lbs., and 2 mean short stripers. Also had a couple of other big fish pull off. The wind dictated where we could fish. Fish we found were between 28’ to as deep as 42’ and constantly moving. Marked a lot of suspended fish but couldn’t get them to bite. Water where we were was only slightly stained and 51 degrees. Never marked anything to make me think it was worth fishing the big spoon yesterday. 3/4 ounce Nickel CC spoons produced a bunch of our fish.
Good day on the water!!

Actually it was a very tough day of fishing compared to the Saturday before. We knew, or thought we knew, where the fish were, but the wind wouldn’t let us get there. We spent a lot of time fishing a “new to us” area. It was the only option we had at the time. Just got lucky and found a few fish there that would bite. We didn’t do nearly as well as we did last Saturday with Fogman.
We did find a really good looking spot for hot weather summertime largemouth fishing. Can’t wait to sling a few baits there next summer.
I got out for a little while yesterday in the gale-force winds. Knowing Lakeworld was close for the month, I was going to try pulling. However, when I went by Better Bait, they were closed due to being out of bait. Just as well, because I found out crossing the dam that there would be no way to pull boards alone; so it was off to the Hilton ramp to jerk spoons.
It was still pretty rough in John’s, but I did manage to jerk up 2 22 inchers, 3 shorts, and a half a dozen or so good perch in 30-40 feet of water. The rough condition made a short but good mental health break. I released all the fish.
Of note, the mud has made it all the way down to John’s. I’ve never seen the lake in such a mess!

Fogman were thinking of heading up there this weekend to try the perch. Do you think the water is going to be too bad for any decent fishing?
Not at all. Just find the clearest water possible off the main channel and try chartreuse spoons or get minnows.

Thanks Fog. We are going to camp around the twin islands area somewhere to try the perch and cook some good food. Come by and I’ll buy you one for the info.
Thanks for the invite, but I’ll be fishing a tournament Saturday. I’ll have to get up with you another time.
