Saturday report

Fished the elbow area Saturday morning with an old friend. Marked lots of active fish starting around 18’ and deeper. Some appeared to be good sized fish. Put the spoons down and caught and released about 15 short stripers, a bunch of perch, a nice flathead and a channel cat. Lost another nice cat. Maybe the bigger fish we were marking were catfish? Do they suspend and feed on bait?
Saw several boats in the area fishing freelines and what looked like downrods over deeper water. Didn’t see them catch anything while we were out.

Yes cats will suspend over deep and shallow water and feed. I caught a decent amount of cats this summer suspended in the big pool.

We did pretty good in the wind on Saturday. Wasted too much time looking for big shad and only ended up fishing for about 2.5hrs in the white caps.

Caught 8 fish with 5 being keepers from 23-29". We were around midlake. 20-50’ of water on boards and freelines. Nothing would touch a downrod even though there were plenty of fish closer to the bottom.

The turnover can’t get here fast enough so we can get up shallow

where is the elbow? is it near hollow creek?

I wore the shorts out Friday with freelines, down rods, and even Alabama rig. Brought my limit home with keepers but the wind was absolutely brutal. The MinnKota was full blast and I finally had enough… Went back Sunday and caught a few but couldn’t get them to eat. caught 8 on freelines and they wouldn’t even look at down rods. I’m like Chip, I can’t wait for the turnover.

The Elbow is between the mouth of Buffalo Creek and Rocky Creek. Look at a lake map and you will understand why it is called that.
