Went to Charleston from Columbia on Friday afternoon and spent the night bobbing around the harbor. Cranked up at 4:00AM and headed to the Southwest Banks for some high speed Wahoo fishing. Had a fish on before the sun even finished rising. Ended the day with three in the boat the biggest weighing in at 53lbs. We missed another 5 fish. After losing all of our lures, trolling weights and wire leaders we left ‘um bitin’ and headed back in about 2:00.
I have been flopping around making my own lures and this was the first time that I have had a chance to test them. I have gotten some good reports from some other captains on the lures but due to boat problems etc. this was the first time I had gotten to run them–They Worked!!!
Great day off shore With Wally, Jay and Shane. The lures wally makes " offshore Ammo" ran awesome and hooked up, First day off shore with the new boat as well. Look forward to many more.
Here are some pics of the lures. I make two different versions of the same lure–one is a 13oz lure with a lead core. The other is a 6oz version. The lures are about 15.5" long. We pulled both versions behind trolling weights and they all got hit. I lost 5 Lures which really sucks. But I have never owned a lure that I would not sacrifice for the chance at a good fish!
I have been selling these mainly at tackle shops from Murrells Inlet all the way to Key West. I am just selling enough to keep stocked up in materials to make more.
Check them out. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
The pics are loading painfully slow–sorry about that.
Yes I make my own molds. I smelt the lead from wheel weights. I made my own molds to pour the lead. I hand paint all the inserts including the stripes. I make sure all lures “keel” properly or they go in my tackle box–I only fish the rejects.
A lot of people make lures and slap a sticker on them and call them “custom” lures-How can they be custom when the all look identical? Yes I do make lures with the same color combinations but each lure is hand made so no two are exactly alike from an appearance stand point. The real goal is to make sure they run consistently–that part I feel I have accomplished.
That hardware store has sold a lot of lures for me. Please let me know how they do. The great thing is when people come back and buy more. One comment from a repeat customer was something to the nature of “Those lures were the only thing they were hitting”. Get me some pictures of some fish caught on the lures and I will give you a discount on your next purchase!
