I have pulled boards from .6mph to a little over 4mph. All with live bait. And have caught fish at all speeds. You just take the situation u are given and make it work.
I have seen many times people put their boat on a trailer early just because they killed their TM batteries. I will pull boards with a big motor before I go home…lol…
The fish in my profile pic was caught pulling boards at over 2.5mph.

We got so twisted up at one point that I had all my planers all twisted up AND had three fish on during the whole process … I had to spot lock to keep from getting blown onshore while we reeled the fish in and sorted out the four planer lines I had on my side …
Ask Tom Gitto, he was watching us and laughing the whole time …
Dang TM and sock?..lol…when it gets that bad just put your back to the wind and let it push u and use the TM to control your nose.

You would be surprised at how well it worked out … I wanted to pull across the wind, but I didn’t want the boat to be sideways while I did it so I used a small sock hooked to my forward cleat and had it running under the boat … between that and using my big motor as a rudder I was able to keep the boat straight (more or less) while running across the wind …
If I’m running with the wind at my back and we’re going too fast then I spin the TM around so that it’s facing me and push against the wind in order to slow us down to my desired speed …
I prefer to use cruise control when I can because … well … because I’m lazy … but anytime the wind is +10 it’s not even worth using it …
To me, the cruise control is the one useless feature on an I-Pilot. Using the regular autopilot function, I can correct for with wind gusts a lot quicker than the advanced autopilot. It makes for more work but keeps the boat in front of the spread.

Thanks Captain! Though it’s irritating and mentally exhausting on windy days, you know I enjoying my role as Hardcore helmsman.
