Saturday Skunk

No luck from Acapulco to Spinners or Crystal Lake pulling u rigs big and small and single bucktails and stretch 25’s. Tried spoons on bottom markings and suspended fish to no avail.

We had similar results fishing farther down the lake. Only caught 1 perch and 1 short striper. Couldn’t find any active fish or clear water. Saw lots of inactive suspended fish.

Same story for us on the perch this afternoon. None on spoons and only picked up 3 on minnows. About 4 pm I found some worms up under the deck from a couple of weeks ago that saved the day for us and we had a good time catching 5 little cats in our last hour of fishing.

Highlight of the afternoon was when my grandson picked up a double on the same rod.

How the heck did you all fish in that wind?

It wasn’t easy. lol. Started off back in Beards to get out of the wind and then it died off a bit late afternoon and we moved out to some open water in Ballentine. Had to anchor both times. TM was useless.

Was kicking myself for not putting in on the Lex side. Wind was SW.

Went out by myself Saturday morning about 0930 for a couple hours just to check things out. As usual left from LHM and have never seen water as stained (like weak tea) since we’ve been here. Wanted to work Ballentine creek but after encountering the very rapid succession of not so gentle swells, abandoned that and just worked the LHM creek, but elected not to run my planer boards or cork through the midst of about 500 seagulls all floating together on the water. Marked a couple of good concentrations, but no bites. Did manage a 6 or 7 pound black bass that would have made the “green guys” proud. It cleared the water about a dozen times, so it wasn’t a total bust. Better weather/water will be coming. Lake World is closed for vacation (not sure for how long) but Better Bait is open on Saturdays and Sundays.

The wind pushed the 25 Gamefish everywhere. The ride back in big water to back of hollow creek was brutally cold while running 30 into a 20+ mph wind. Getting the boat docked and trailered was a B as well. That thing is like a windsock!

FB 2 try that run in a Carolina skiff!!

No thanks, I’m enjoying the beast that is the 25 Gamefish. As rough as it was on Murray, even when into a 20+ side wind we were still staying dry and could barely feel the bumps.

It sucks not to catch’em but it happens sometimes. Fishing is like golf, that one good day on the water or course make you want to do it that much more.

I peeled off to Lake Russell Friday and marked a lot of fish. Hooked up on a nice one and got him 3/4 of the way to the boat and he pulled the hook. Caught another around 15 pounds and picked up a few bites here and there. Fished till noon when I was called in to work but feeling the tug of those two fish made it a good day.

FB you should see my walkaround in wind like that. with the full enclosure up, it acts like a sail boat. i can usually kill the motor, drop lines in, and just use the big motor as a rudder and steer the boat where i want to go and just use the wind to power me. saves lots of money on fuel

In the wind it’s hard to beat my 1971 20’ Glassmaster!

Florida Boys why not join the Midlands Striper Club . We weighed in lots of fish in our TX Sat .BIG fish was around 27 lbs released live by team Wildman.meetings at flight deck in Lexington every second Tuesday . Great club . Great people.

Huh … despite the fact that it was windy, there were fish to be found everywhere we went on Saturday … just not the size we were looking for to weigh-in at the MSC TX …

We fished from Barstow to Crystal to Hollow … Best places for table fare concentrations were Hollow Creek and stacked up on the river channel on either side of the Big Gap …

All the fish (including the two biggest not in the picture because they were in the fish bag) were donated for a fund raising fish fry …

FYI, these fish were all 22" to 25" fish …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

Good locking cooler!

I grew up in the MSC. Fished with Lee, Fogman and Wes…I just don’t have time for the club right now and just getting back into it. The bite seemed to be on live bait and not Artificials. Just wasn’t prepared for artificials but I will next time

The wind was indeed a bear on Saturday. We checked it at one point, and it was sustained at 17 with gusts to 35. That makes running the troller a real chore! We marked large groups of fish all day but only caught 12 total stripers with 7 keepers. Our 2 best were good enough for 12th place out of the 31 teams. Gary also jerked up some nice white perch. The bite was a lot slower for us than we’ve become accustomed to here lately.

Oh well. The best time to fish is when you can go!

I hear ya, James … Saturday was the first time that I had to pull planers with the trolling motor AND a drift sock … It really limited some of the places I wanted to fish …

We got so twisted up at one point that I had all my planers all twisted up AND had three fish on during the whole process … I had to spot lock to keep from getting blown onshore while we reeled the fish in and sorted out the four planer lines I had on my side …

Ask Tom Gitto, he was watching us and laughing the whole time …
