Fished out of Edisto saturday in the 20 foot Pioneer. Ocean was empty of boats all day until we arrived at the Edisto banks. Where was everyone? We started trolling west of Edisto banks in 130 of water and fished out to roughly 225 ft. Had 11 on the hook 9 to the boat and put 7 nice dolphin in the box. Called it a day at 1:30 and headed to the hill. The “hot” color for the day was orange, didnt matter what it was as long as it was orange. Most fish hooked on the outriggers way back…Hope to get back out next week. Still cannot figure out why so few boats went yesterday. It wasn’t too rough for our little boat…oh well…tight lines all…John
Glad to hear ya’ll made it out. I know you were hoping for a buddy boat. Did you make the haul by your self? What kind of speed were you able to make going out? I had planned for today, but my guys all abanoned me. However, I have made contact with a couple of others on this site and hopefully we can get out real soon. Maybe we can buddy up and go out next time. EB is a long haul for us small boats to be by ourselves.
Bell, did you guys have to take any extra cans of gas? I have the Pioneer 197 and have been anxious to take it out, but have been a little worried about fuel.

how big is the tank on the P-197?
good day trolling the ledge you will burn 50-70 gallons depending on speed of trolling and ocean conditions, I would think having a minimum of 90 gallons is required to go that far on a 20-23’
I have not used more than 60 gallons on my 22 Sea Hunt Cuddy with a 225 Yami 4S on every trip to the ledge and beyond. Holds 91 gallons. No problem. Just buddy up for comfort.
Fvalencia, its not about the boat its the motor. If youre using a 200hp sure your fuel consumption would be 70-90 gallons. I went just shy of the ledge in my Pioneer with a 140HP 4Stroke, trolled all day and burned a whopping 30 gallons of gas. The Pioneer has a 73 gallon tank. FYI.
On our first trip we used 52 gallons of the 73 we had available…we used much less yesterday due to the fact it was a following sea coming in and I assume we ran more efficient. We didn’t top off the tanks yesterday cuz we had 11 people waiting at the house for fresh fried dolphin…We would have loved to have had a buddy boat but to no avail…anyone who fishes that area is welcome to call us on 68. We decided yesterday that that would probably be our worst case scenario as far as rough seas…had it gotten a little worse we would have been home much earlier…John
