Saturdy storm racing

Got a call yesterday morning from a buddy. He was wanting to fish and didn’t want to go solo. So I grabbed my gear and we met at Wappoo Cut about noon. The lot was full and we had to hunt for a parking spot. But finally hit the water and cruised out the confused seas in the harbor headed for the jetties. I was in the mood to see if the black drum were hungry. Hit my go-to spot and it didn’t dissappoint. We caught close to 25 fish including a short blue and 8 or so short redfish. Threw back way more than we kept, with several caught right at the “keeper” size that were released. Ended keeping 8 fish between 17"-19".

Cruised out to the north jetty and ended the day with 6-9 short black sea bass. Noticed the clouds closing in and we made the run for the hill in rough conditions. Made it to the Wappoo landing just as the rain hit.

All fish were caught on frozen shrimp fished on a fish-finder rig with 1/2 oz weight and a 11" leader and a 2/0 circle hook fished on the bottom close to the rocks. Cool sight of the day was an ultra-light that was buzzing Morris Island. Watched him land on the beach and then took off. A cool sight indeed. A great day on the water.

Good report not to mention the good eating you have right there!

I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.

Real nice haul of black drum. That spot is pretty good sometimes…sometimes even epic.

Thanks SOL. True that Hairball. We set up a little different this time. Opposite to how we normally do for the tide (you know what I mean). And the bite was pretty hot.
