One thing I’ve never liked is the factory Accustock that comes on these rifles. It works and is functional but it just doesn’t feel good. I’ve gotten use to a fuller stock and kind of like the Medalists on these guns. Bell & Carlson finally came out with a model that fit the DBM bottom bolt release models so, it was upgrade time.
I started with this.
Got this and fitted everything to check:
Black guns are boring so I brought in a little color:
TNT Custom Camo in Moncks Corner did the dip job on the stock. I finally got an airbrush to Duracoat with and it made a huge difference. Treebark pattern and WWII OD Green metal. Still topped with the Bushnell 4200 2.5X10X50 #4 but, I’m considering a glass change down the road.
This gun feels, mounts and points like a completely different gun. It shot well under and inch before, would hope it only gets better. It’s just hard to get pinpoint with the heavy reticle in that scope.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Krylon isn’t nearly as hard or scratch resistant as the Duracoat, which is even less than the Ceracoat. I can do the Duracoat in my garage, it cost me about $60.00 after I bought the airbrush. Now, I’m set for the next one I do, $25.00 for the paint. I had done a couple with the shake and spray Duracoat kits but, they weren’t nearly as good a finish as the airbrush provided. My Remington 700 is Duracoated but there were some runs I had to sand out, I top coated with Krylon camo paint using a mesh bag for a pattern on the metal work with the stock being dipped in Mossy Oak Original Bottomland. I carried that one about 50 times last season, very little wear on the dip job and not one scratch on the metal work, just wear on the magazine system I have in it.

I take care of my tools be it one of these plastic stocked guns or one of my Sakos or Model 70’s. No reason your hunting tool can’t look good and be functional at the same time. If I can’t make a rifle feel good, look good and develop a load that’ll shoot under 1" in it, it gets sold.
This one’s either getting another Trijicon or a Nightforce NXS 2.5X10X42 Compact IHR.

Bushnell 4200 2.5X10X50 with a #4 Illuminated reticle. Helluva low light hunting scope, not much for the target game.

You need some bottom metal and a good bolt lever. What cal?
Scout 185
It’s a .308.
The factory mag system on these guns isn’t bad at all. Down the road, I may add a CDi mag kit since they’re cleaner looking than the PTG system. Both of those accept AICS mags. The bolt handle on that gun is fine, oversized and easy to grasp. I have that action pretty slick now. If I do anything else it’ll be a Timney first. Then again I may sell it and either build on something like a Stiller or Surgeon or buy a Sako TRG.

I got a lot to do around this yard. It was neglected for about 3 years prior to moving in. I’ll get all of it sooner or later. Neither poison ivy or oak bother me.
