Savage River Trip Pictures

Hey I thought I would share some pictures from my camping trip 3 weeks ago on the Savage River in Maryland.

lets try this again…

ok that works better…sorry i haven’t posted in a while! Here are the rest of the pictures.

Overall it was a productive weekend. The fishing there was very tough! The water is very dark so it was hard to see where you were walking. But the dry fly action was awesome!!! If anyone is every planning a weekend caming trip i would reccomend the Savage! Great Brookies, Browns and Football size rainbows.

Pretty browns! gotta love it!

the more i look @ that fish, the more it looks like a hybrid. def the spots and color of a brown but towards the back, the underlying pattern looks oddly like a small brook trout. plus the stark white on the bottom fins is a brookie thing. a hatchery created mix of the two returns a “tiger trout” which has the same fin characteristics but diff markings. i will try to get a USF&W buddy to look @ this.

Hey Scotty,
Yeah when I caught it I thought it was a brown too. But the savage is a tail water section that has native brookies, browns, and rainbows. the closer you are to the dam the more brookies. This guy definitly had some brookie in it w/ the white stripes on the fins, but the spots are those of a brown. Either way there is some top notch trout fishing up here. The savage pours into the Potomac and there are some MONSTER BROWNS in this section. You can get a guide and do a raft trip for about $250-300 for two anglers. There are browns over 20" average in this section! There is a fly shop right on the savage and the guy that owns it rents out three cabins right on the river. Its a nice spot. When Ive gone up there I always camp b/c there are tons of camp spots w/in 100ft from the river. Check out:
