So I was armed with all three offerings on Saturday morning. Same cork, same leader length, same rod. The water was stained and the natural color and small size of the Vudu had it all but invisible. I’ve had a ton of bites on it so I threw it a couple of times anyway. Nothin doin, so I switched to the Savage. This example was a little darker in color and twice the size so I could at least see it. I threw that joker for an hr before the first hit and to no surprise, a miss. Threw the DOA around a couple times, but was quite sure the trout were not there or at least there and feeding. Went to old faithfull with much clearer water and tried the Savage again. I skin hooked the bait in a way that kept the hook exposed like a DOA. First cast produced a Savasge hit and a Savage miss. When I got the bait to the boat, The tail was flipped up over the body and the hook was stuck into the paddle part. “Ok, I’ve had enough! I want to actually catch some fish!” Switched to the DOA and BAM, BAM, BAM! three consecutive fish in the box in about ten casts. No misses. So, I’m done with the lifelike tail action baits. So the tail flicks, but not like a shrimp. We have all seen a shrimp scamper for it’s life and they move backwards not forwards so I’m not sure it’s a big advantage. If you want a shrimp with good tail action, google kickin tail prawn. A guy sells them on e-bay. The Savage might have a good use: clear water for redfish when you can actually set the hook. The Vudu gets tons of hits because of it’s size and appearance, but few hookups. The D.O.A. looks real enough and has the advantage of adding color. The shrimp I threw yesterday was glow and had a self added glow pink tail. That helped the fish find the bait in the dingy water. If I added a firetail to a natural looking shrimp, it wouldn’t be natural. All three baits had a healthy dose of Pro-Cure shrimp gel BTW inn case someone wonders if that would increase hookups. I will give the Live Target shrimp a try in clear water when they are available.
Good Luck, O.C.
Thanks for the report oc. This is exactly what I expected, but was thinking about getting the vudu anyway. However, I dont think i will spend 7 bucks on one now. It just looks so good to us humans because it is all fancy. Another good shrimp with action is the gulp ghost shrimp on a jig head. Hooked tail first.

Try free lining the savage and vudu. They work alto better, I agree they ain’t too great for a cork though.

Agreed. There’s a whole line of realistic, Kevlar laced shrimp coming out that look good, but you’ll be hard pressed to beat 1/4 oz DOA or Gulp!, Exude or Zman.

One more good one to add that I didn’t see mentioned. Wild eye Live Shrimp by Storm. Real good hook up ratio!

Fished the Vudu Shrimp for the first time this weekend. The wife and I dragged them slow along the bottom. Caught 40 fish over 2 days, including flounder, reds, and bunches of trout. I will be getting more before our next trip to the Wando. For us, they outfished the DOA.
