Savannah River

Has anyone been having luck on the river catching stripers? Three weeks ago heard people catching them on shrimp about five feet down with a floater on top. However, no more shrimp around, any other tips?
I have heard the locks and by the old factory??

i don’t think anybody on here fishes for striper on the Savannah. This questions comes up occasionally and never gets answered. I’ve heard that the striper follow the shad up the river to the lock and dam in March/April. maybe try calling Broadway Tackle in Augusta. i know a guy posed pics of some big striper he caught in the winter off of a dock

hey tom, not sure how much fishin your doing down on the coast but your a long way from charleston as well. Nice lake boat. Is that a dual console? I dont think somebody from Augusta would really know as well but I lived in charleston for 8 years and had this account, just felt that maybe I would give it a chance. I noticed you are in West Columbia, any luck at the dam on the lake?

Herd bream was the bait of choice, especially around the Butler creek area. I have seen big ones jump, and herd stories. I have never had any luck myself though. I’ve tried several times, but current was so stong I never could keep my bait from coming right to the surface behind the boat.

I just heard this week that a guy caught two nice ones using blue gill heads floating along the bottom. Coming over the second bridge into SC near some kind of drain.

I guess I should have looked at where you are from. But the striper do run all the way up to Augusta. It is a dual console POS Galaxy (AKA Shakey). It is gone now, I bought a wellcraft V20 dual console. Your two are from the salt, that’s cheating.
