Saw this & wanted to share (see photo).
I intended to release all trout (and redfish) prior to this statement, and will most definitely do so.

Good on him. I’m going to find him on the fb and share as well. Thanks.

On a side note, today I learned that an 11 inch trout is mature enough to breed. I’ll try to share the image on FB as well. I feel like a surprising number of anglers simply aren’t aware of the damage to the fishery caused by the water temp.

At one year old, unlike a Red at 3-5.
Good on you, Mr. Goldfinch.
It’s a good step in the right direction.
Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.
What I don’t understand, that if it’s a serious enough issue, why wouldn’t the DNR just put a moratorium on it. …begin a campaign to encourage the release…. That doesn’t really mean jack. Some people will, some won’t. If it really needs it, then close it.
Not saying I disagree, but sounds like just words unless there is some actual action behind it. Good for Mr. Goldfinch.

Dnr doesn’t have the authority to close it. Our state government needs to do it.
After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

I’m all for this. While many of us like to keep some fish for the table now and then, no one is going to starve if they don’t eat a trout in 2018.
I’d be interested to know what percentage of the overall trout harvest is through guides vs rec fisherman as I don’t think there’s much if any commercial fishing for trout.
How much of an impact on guides business would it have if they self-imposed catch limits different than what is set by DNR (say, 2 fish over 16" per/person/day)?

My personal experience has shown that it takes about 30 seconds to educate a client on the importance of releasing certain fish. A self imposed catch limit would have ZERO impact on my business seeing as how I try not to kill fish anyway.

Along those lines, some people adhere to size/creel limits and some people don’t but that’s no reason to not have size/creel limits. People break laws all the time but again, that’s no reason to do away with and/or not have laws. Every law/rule/reg is “just words.” The enforcement is the “action.”

A step in the right direction per educational purposes but falls terribly short on actual conservation of the resource.
Where is CCA on this ?
Do some of y’all really believe that fishing guides are going to decimate the trout population. Quite a few more recreational fisherman than guides I do believe.
Lots of recreational fishermen are worlds ahead of most “guides” when it pertains to targeting certain species such as trout.
No the guides are killing all the breeder reds didn’t you read the other thread. Lol.
Fishing pressure in general for breeder reds during the summer months definitely is a contributing factor to the decline in redfish numbers.
