Says it all!

Can’t , speak for CL , Sellsfish , Easy or the many thousands that have to live with their thoughts of the things they saw or done wherever it might have been in the service of this great land of ours, I don’t think any are looking for any more than to be left to live out their lives in the peace they deserve. I for one am saddened
to see the path this country seems to be taking and the indifference
in attitude the general populance takes in doing what is needed today to keep this country free , we cannot continue this course.

Let’s lighten things up a little bit. Sure is a nasty day.

Is sex “work”?

A U.S. Marine Colonel was about to start the morning briefing to his staff. While waiting for the coffee machine to finish brewing, the colonel decided to pose a question to all assembled. He explained that his wife had been a bit frisky the night before and he failed to get his usual amount of sound sleep. He posed the question of just how much of sex was “work” and how much of it was “pleasure?”
A Major chimed in with 75%-25% in favor of work.
A Captain said it was 50%-50%.
A lieutenant responded with 25%-75% in favor of pleasure, depending upon his state of inebriation at the time.
There being no consensus, the colonel turned to the PFC who was in charge of making the coffee and asked for HIS opinion.
Without any hesitation, the young PFC responded, "Sir, it has to be 100% pleasure.”
The colonel was surprised and as you might guess, asked why?
"Well, sir, if there was any work involved, the officers would have me doing it for them."The room fell silent.
God Bless the enlisted man. A M E R I C A — home of the free, because of the BRAVE.

It’s is absolutely true… But, some folks cave way too quick when it is questioned… Need a little resolve around here…

It also has been around for a while…

JUST A SIMPLE SOLDIER

He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast
And he sat around the Legion telling stories of the past,
Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done
In his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, everyone.

And ‘tho sometimes to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.
But we’ll hear his tales no longer, for old Bob has passed away
And the world’s a little poorer, for a soldier died today.

No, he won’t be mourned by many, just his children and his wife,
For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life,
He held a job and raised a family, quietly going on his way;
And the world won’t note his passing; ‘tho a soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great,
Papers tell of their life stories from the time that they were young,
But the passing of a soldier goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land
Some jerk who breaks his promise and cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow who in times of war and strife
Goes off to serve his Country and offers up his life?

The politician’s stipend and the style in which he lives
Are sometimes disproportionate to the services that he gives,
While the ordinary soldier, who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal, and perhaps a pension small.

It’s so easy to forget them, for it was so long ago
That our Bob’s and Jim’s and Johnny’s went to battle, but we know
It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom that our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger with your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out with his ever-waffling stand?
Or would you want a soldier who has sworn to defend
His home, his kin, and country, and would fight until the end?

He was just a common soldier and his ranks are growing thin

Hmm… RBF spots… Yappy dogs on the left side of the porch: stationed on the right side of the left banner. Two birds on the roof ridge… Ladder on the right of the porch… Humming bird feeder on the left…

And… an interior fire place vs and side mount…

Yep. that’s what RBF sees…

War brings all sorts of emotions out of people, regardless if you served or not. CL is right, today is for remembering those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, not those of us that made it home alive or those still serving.

That said, I don’t share his “all for nothing” sentiment. Every time I was deployed, I took pride in not only the uniform I wore but I also took pride in knowing I was fighting along side my brothers. I fought for them. I fought for others that couldn’t/wouldn’t fight for themselves (no, that doesn’t only apply to people in other countries). Nothing made me more proud than to look to my left and my right and know those guys I saw had my back and I had theirs. To understand that would mean you understand you NEVER fought for “nothing.” Having seen the strength, passion, conviction, and commitment they fought with made me proud and again made it clear we NEVER fought for “nothing.”

I’ve said my good byes to some of my brothers while crying over their flag-draped coffin. I’ve been to their funerals. I’ve looked their wives in their tear filled eyes and never once did it dawn on me that we fought for “nothing.” These men, my brothers, didn’t subject themselves to such difficult training for “nothing.” These men, my brothers, didn’t fight as hard as they did for “nothing.” We weren’t drafted. We volunteered to do what we did. We chose to put ourselves in harms way and we were all prepared to pay the ultimate price. That’s one big difference between us and some others. I didn’t volunteer for service for VA benefits, the GI Bill, or some political views. I volunteered because I still believe in this country and its citizens what it truly stands for; not what CNN or FOX try to tell us it stands for.

Like I said, the fog of war draws many different types of emotions out of all us, veteran or not, but I’ve seen too much dedication, commitment, and passion to EVER think we fought for “nothing.” To think that only serves to insult their service and besmirch their sacrifice. I’d give anything to h

I’ve got to agree with you there. By nothing I meant politically. We gained nothing. We went with expectations of doing great things, saving the world from communism. What it all boiled down to was us saving each others ass and trying to keep each other alive until tomorrow. By accomplishing nothing, I mean we killed 58,000 good American soldiers and a million of the enemy, then turned around and walked away. And Vietnam is still a communist country.

I’ll take this watch with you.

Nice looking home, GW :sunglasses: My flags fly 24/7/365 too.
