SBC Weigh-In

Where are we going to dock 170 boats to do the weigh-in? There is not enough shoreline or dock space at Dreher Island.

Good question Rick Hope we get an answer.

We will get the process at the captains meeting. I, like most people, do not see how they can pull it off as planned. If I was not already fishing it I would come just to watch the process.

If it’s like some of the larger tournaments I’ve fished you’ll have several different flights of boats. If they do this you will be told which flight and starting order you will have at the meeting, as well as any other important info such as livewell checks, etc. Flights usually start and weigh-in at about 30 minute intervals. The first flight weighs in first and the other flights get 30 more minutes respectively before having to weigh-in. That usually helps eliminate some of the confusion, but it can still be a pain. There is almost always a check-in boat and you have to check in, line up and blast off when told to do so by the check-in boat, in a pre-determined order, and check back in before weighing-in. It can be very frustrating when you head to your first three favorite spots and find boats already there!! Y’all be safe out there.

But like Rick said, all these boats will be back at the same time for the final weigh in and awards. How or where are we all going to dock, beach, or tie up all our boats? The big docks on the east side of Billy Dreher are basically destroyed and aren’t usable. Going to be interesting for sure.

I hope that the powers that be are reading/hearing about these concerns.

I think this will be a major learning experience for the organizers. My biggest concern is keeping fish live. Current check is at the scales. I would like to see them check for live fish at the check in boat. That would take out the issue of the line getting backed up and fish being in a bag too long. They may have heard all of this and have solutions at the captains dinner.

Personally a learning experience ,getting the kinks worked out. At what expense. Over 300fisherman from various states travelling and trailering boats prefishing, dealing with bait .the blast off ,the weighin . I live in Crystal Lake boat in the water .Not to bad for me and my team.I wish y’all had it as easy. I guess we will have to have a ton of patience and watch out for each other Be careful and safe I’m bringing hot chocolate Amen.

Bass tournaments have been doing the “bass in a bag” weigh-in line for years and their mortality rate is extremely low. Typically a fish is dead when it hits the scales as opposed to dying while in the bag waiting for weigh-in. The check-in boat is just for timing. To start checking fish then would created a much larger log jam than a weigh-in line.

I don’t know if it’s a matter of lack of tournament experience or what, but I believe some of you are over-thinking this. Weigh-in systems that work have been in place for years so there’s no need to re-invent the wheel.

Called disorganization from the get go. Dreher could have handled every boat in that tournament. Racing team putting a tournament on=no clue.

Assuming we’re all adults here. Come on.

I for one was impressed with how well it went. A few hiccups but all in all a great job. I was a skeptic but it went well from my perspective. i think the next one will be even better.

Joby

I agree, it went much better than I expected. They could have used radios a little more every time a group color was lining for blast off. I am sure with this experience the next one will be much better.

I for one am extremely impressed with the way things went. Biggest hiccup I saw was that they didn’t get a VHF for the takeoff. The weigh-in went very smooth, which I expected. We are used to having weigh-ins. Not blast offs. That was the largest raffle give away I’ve ever been part of. My team had a great weekend. Caught fish and even won a little money. The organizers should be commended. It took a lot of hard work from a lot of people. Who didn’t get paid, btw. Unlike bass or flw. I’m looking forward to the next one.
