Good job! Now for my own clarification…State waters is 3 miles out, then it becomes Federal waters and different seasons and rules apply? So if I go to say 100Ft (or one of the popular artificial reefs around here) before June first… I still can’t keep any?

John

The bill, as written would specifically allow you to fish, year-around for BSB in state waters (within 3 miles). If you were to fish outside of state waters when the federal season was closed, you would technically be in violation of the law. There’s not much I can do about that. I can, however, promise you that a BSB in your boat is a legal fish, as long as you are checked in state waters.

Is this effective immediately or does it go through more ratifications before it is law? IE: when I head out next weekend can I bring home a fresh batch of BSB? Will the creel limit still be 5 fish?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

My hat is off to you Yellabird, Great to have a Rep with backbone and a brain for a change…
My thought this whole exercise it conditioning… conditioning us to accept more rights removed by the Feds under the environmental guise… this one was just not that well though out, obviously bogus, and people are fighting back.
We caught big black bass on Saturday 25-30% wree over 12" long within sight of land at 45’ depth. the bait never hit the bottom before getting slammed by more black bass.
One BSB even swallowed the weight!!! and didnt let go til in the boat!!!
Can’t balme anyone who didnt see it saying bull cause I wouldn’t believe it unless I saw it too…
Swarms more BSB followed the caught BSB to the surface on most retrives.

So when will bill go into effect?

Our friends in the Senate tell us that it will likely pass over there without too much trouble. Still, it’s best to call your Senators and tell them to support the bill. Especially Senator Campsen. Please thank him for his committment to the fishermen of this state. Assuming that the Senate passes the bill within the next 3 weeks, then it will go to the Governor within the month. It’s then in the governor’s hands. I see no reason why the governor shouldn’t sign the bill. I think the bill will become law before the fall season.

I know this has been brought up before but someone should correct the spelling of the species in the bill. It should be Centropristis striata.

Thank you Yellabird for all your efforts. This will help protect our
inshore fishery from the ravages of C-Bass. However; the real problem lies outside our State waters where the overpopulation is quite clear to anyone who fishes regularly. How can we ever get a grasp on this problem with the Feds so intent on restricting this fishery? As cited by one of the members in this post the C-Bass would chase one hooked right to the boat…eat sinkers, etc. This is common and I fear the damage to other species will be hard to bounce back from the longer the Federal restrictions remain in place.

The amended version corrects the name.
