Anyone have any video or photos of barge 2 going down ?
Fish More!
I have lots of pics, unfortunately none of the barge actually sinking. We spent a lot of time out there, trolling around and going back to the barge. Actually followed the barge on its last few miles. From around 9:30 am until close to three, we came and went. Finally left as we still had a long run to get back to the marina. I believe it finally went down shortly after three.
It was great to see it though and be a part of it. I do have a good bit of nice pics from some of the other boats that were out there.
What a great experience to watch for Memorial Day weekend,I feel blessed to have been there.
How many feet of water are they in? Just wondering without going to boat and figuring out on the map. Thanks
Just got an email from the NOAA ship Pisces, They Have located both barges and they sent side scan sonar images of each site.
Barge 1 is in the current MPA boundary in the northwest corner.
Barge 2 is 4 miles south of barge 1 and 1.5 miles west of the boundary. Both barges landed upright, the crane on barge one is upright and the cell phone poles and towers that were threw the deck of barge 2 are intact and upright. The containers that broke loose from barge one are just off the southwest corner.
All material from barge two appear to be in place. They have taken video with their ROVS and will forward them later.
I will post them when I get them.
I will also forward the exact position of each when I get them.
They are also trying to get the Boundary expanded with a buffer to cover barge two.
They said both Barges are covered with fish already.
Thanks
Charlie
COOL Cant wait for the video.
Wow so the crane on barge 1 is upright? Super good news. It looked in the video like it went down crooked.
I told ya they would expand the MPA.
Thet are dead set against anyone bottom fishing that spot…
I want to know how in the heck they could “miss” the MPA that far, with all of their technology:question: That’s like the IRS loosing emails. Not plausible to my thinking.

I believe the amount of time the barge took to sink along with deteriorating conditions caused it to drift outside the boundary of the MPA. Got too dicey to reattach a tow line according to what was in the P&C article that came out just after the barges were dropped, if I recall correctly.
Tideline has published the coordinates and the side scan sonar images of the barges. I can’t find a link to the article on line but it is in the print version which just came out.
