Get ready for Cherry Grove to get REAL busy. SC Sportsman put out an article on their webpage saying that the flounder had finally showed up in #'s in CG and they were wearing them out. CG needed that like I need a hole in the head. I’m not stingy or greedy, but dang if that little place isn’t packed already, and now it’s gonna get even more heat. I shouldn’t complain because I can’t even go right now, but I know how it used to be when I went a lot.
Finn, I was just wanting to hear general. I didn’t need someone to tell me the big flatties were being caught in the main channel next to the rockwall and whatnot. I just wanted to hear of fish being caught. Printed vs To The North is a little different, man.
It doesn’t matter where you report from, somebody always has issue with local reports. But, there are more people that like the reports than dislike them. Most of the people that have issues don’t have many places or spots to fish. I used to have problems with the specific reports myself, but over the years, I have learned that you must find more than one or two spots to fish, especially the Little River/Cherry Grove area. Lots of traffic! I have plenty of places I can find fish in public water and get away from the crowds. If you live in the area, you have Little River, Murrell’s, Winyah, and Santee Delta to choose from. When cherry grove cranks up, so does the rest of the area. Cherry Grove will get crowded in April-May regardless of any published article. Fishing the main channel for flounder in Cherry Grove is not news to anybody that has ever fished there. On low tide, there is nowhere else to fish! Word of mouth is about lightening fast! People that cannot go as much as the locals like to read the reports. Good luck fishing and lets post some reports! There are not very many of us that post reports from Little River…
Dude, I’d love to post a report, but I’m landlocked with new baby and work. I agree with what you said. Sometimes it just feels good to complain, though. I fished CG 1 time last year, and that was waayyyy too much for me. I just can’t handle that congestion. I remember back in the day when you could go and only see a handful of boats fishing in the spring. I guess it just sucks to see it get so congested with yahoos after all these years. I mainly fish up there in LR because there is still a place or two where you can fish and not see more than 2 or 3 boats while you fish. Plus it’s only 20 miinuts from the house vs 45 to MI and 1.5 hours to the honey hole in Awendaw. It’s tough to travel for fish with kids and whatnot, you know. Heck, last year, I did better with the flounder in LR than I ever did down South. I don’t remember a day going where we didn’t catch several reds and flounder with a trout or 3 thrown in to boot. But, with all that said, point taken, Finn!
I know where you are coming from. I have a 7 year old, 4 month old, and a registered nurse for a wife that works just about every weekend. I live in Myrtle and Little River is the closest for me too. I usually stay away from Little River and Murrells in summer. I will hit those two places in fall and winter. I take my rig to G-town in summer. FYI-love me some awendaw too, just a real long drag on the asphalt.
