SEATROUT UPDATE FOR ANGLERS: The unusually cold weather this past month killed spotted seatrout across the coast of South Carolina. For the time being, to help protect the surviving fish through the next spawning season, we’re urging anglers to practice catch and release of spotted seatrout. Your help will give these fish a better shot at recovering from this winter die-off.
SCDNR biologists will continue their work in the field to investigate the scope and severity of this kill, and we’ll share updates as we learn more. As a reminder, we also want to hear of any fish kills you encounter — please share your reports with Joey Ballenger at BallengerJ@dnr.sc.gov.
