SCDNR ?

Sold a boat over a year ago, but forgot to send in disposal form. Just got may tax bill. Since the guy I sold boat to was out of state does DNR have anyway to verify the sale date since the title was signed over and turned into another state.

What happens to the old title once its turned in to a different state?

If you owned the boat Jan.1 you owe the taxes.
Boat taxes are paid a year behind.
I sold my boat in August and bought another in September, I will still owe the taxes this year on the old boat and nothing on the new one till next year.
If it went out of State, the new state is supposed to claim the title and transfer it to their State. Your old SC title will cease to exist.
I guess it will depend on when the new owner got the title transferred. If he waited until after the 1st of the year then he hung you with the taxes…sort of.

You should be able to provide a bill of sale to verify the date if you do in fact have a bill of sale.
