School of striper at the dam

Went to the dam for lunch and the herring were running about 20’ out. This was the first time this year I’ve seen them there at lunch. I usually have a rod with a bucktail or plug, but not today. All I had was the rod with no lure or hook. This was the best schooling I’ve ever seen. Video turned pixilated(sp?)when I downloaded it, but here it is.

Cool Video!! I pulled in on my way home last night about 7:00 and saw nothing. I took a few blind casts with a topwater plug and left.

Did they go like that the whole time you were there?

No, the first 15 minutes it was just schools of herring about 20’to 40’ out. Then for 15 minutes they busted on them out by the shull markers. Then about 12:30 then hit that school right in front of the fishing deck and pushed the bait against the bank by the parking lot. They were still going strong when I left at 12:50. In fact, the fish at 12:30 were about 16-18 inch range. By the time I left they were all 20-25 inch fish. I could have got all the herring I needed with a bait tank net. Odd thing is there was not a single person fishing, one guy was in the process of taking his boat out and shot over and was catching one per cast on an Alabama rig

Nice, thanks for sharing !!
