The stripers are starting to school on Lake Murray in the early morning. I caught one with a fly rod this morning. They are not staying on top more than 30 sec or so but it should be getting better as the temp cools. I was fishing in the Wessinger- Shull Isle area. Later,Mike
Thanks for the tip.
Thanks, the cool nights coming up should help as well. I think I will have to try sunday morning. Can’t wait to catch one on a flyrod.
Any fly recommendations?
These fish have been very picky with what they will hit. I caught mine on a 1" white fly. I have to throw it directly into a feeding school to get a hit. I think I may need to attach the fly with a loop rather than a clinch knot to give it more action. I have also had success on small white and grey clousers. I feel that my hookup ratio should be much better than it is. The fish are feeding on very tiny shad 1"to1and1/2" long. I will try again Sat.AM
I have a long handled dip net that I think will work good for catchin those small shad. I will try it this weekend
