Has anyone ever installed one of these? Someone gave me one and I was going to try to install it. Does anyone do this type of work on the side? I have all parts except the female end that the downrigger plugs into and the big steel weight. 1990 Champion bass boat. thanks.
I may be interested in doing it if the price is right. I have installed plenty for people.

Those weighted balls are lead! They are not cheap, may concider replacing the wire with power pro 300#
Chip,
I lost your number. What is it? I sent you a pm and never heard back. If the wind ever stops blowing a million miles an hour every weekend maybe I will get to fish again someday.

It has all the parts except the ball. What size do I use and how much are they.
Never got a message… 803309five3four2
Most people use a 10# weight. You can get buy with smaller though, especially if you use a pancake style that cuts through the water with less drag.
Not sure on the price. Just look for downrigger weights online.

bomber, have you already purchased your downrigger release clips? Check out Roemer Release clips and Captain Mack Farr’s youtube video on downrigging for stripers. He has some excellent tips and also uses the Roemer releases. He makes excellent bucktail jigs and 6 inch curlytail trailers that you can purchase at Sportsman’s Warehouse. Search for “F8837DVD Downrigging For Stripers” on youtube to see it… Chartruse jigs and especially the chartruse 6 inch trailers work very well in Lake Murray.

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
Also, since you are only going to have one downrigger, get a stacker type release as well to fish a 2nd rod off it.

They’re not cheap, but would still rather loose a weight than have the downrigger ripped out of the mount!
I don’t know about electric downriggers, but on my manual Cannons, if I’m in an area where I’m worried about hanging up, I’ll back off on the downrigger reel after getting to the desired depth so the clutch is engaged just enough to hold the weight at the depth I want…kinda like setting the drag loose on a reel.

I actually do not know if I have release clips or not how do I tell. Do they come with the ball? I will try to take some pictures tomorrow of what I have and post on here. Hopefully after fishing if its not too windy again. My uncle who lives up north used this downrigger to troll salmon and steelhead on lake michigan. I know I dont have a ball. Anyone been having any luck or has the wind kept everyone at home.
