Scout 175 Trolling Motor

Has anyone ever mounted a bow mount trolling motor on a Scout 175 CC? If so which brand and model. Was the space on the bow adequate to mount, etc.?

I mounted a Minn-Kota riptide AP on a Scout 172 CC. My boat has the split bow rails so they were not a problem. I used the Minn-Kota quick connect mounting plate that makes it easy to remove the trolling motor. There was just enough room to mount the plate off to the side of the anchor storrage. To make things secure I installed a backplate beneathe the deck. To gain access to this area I first installed an 6" access port from inside the anchor storrage.

I just installed a Motorguide S/W on a 15’ Scout and installed at Motorguide installation kit on mine…http://www.boatfix.com/shop3/store/listItems.asp?strSearch=702-MGA015PB6. It saves you from having to access the area beneath the deck.

hey tailspot; where would i find a quick connect mount? i looked on the minn-kota web site but with my computer skills; that doesn’t mean too much. thanks.

Tailspot - what length shaft and thrust?

Scout, I’m trying to do the same thing. If you figure it out post pictures with a description. Can’t decide Minkota or Motor Guide, but either will have to have remote. The pedals will be in the way on the front deck.

The motor that I installed is a MK power drive - 24V - 65 pound thrust with a 54 inch shaft. I would not recommend a shorter shaft. I have not had any problems with the 54 inch. The 65 pounds works good unless you are in heavy currents combined with wind. Do not go with less than 65. I don’t think MK makes the older version quick release mount. Mine is aluminum. They do make a composite quick release for the power drive series that should fit - MKA 21.

I have a Motorguide wireless, saltwater 55lb thrust for sale. It has the quick disconnect plate, fob controller, and wireless foot controller. I can’t make it fit my sailfish bayboat. It has never been wet. I’m asking $600 for everything. It retails for $800 with the accesories.

Thanks tailspot - I’m thinking 60 or 62" shaft with 70-80 lbs thrust. Seems like motorguide is much cheaper??

I dont think you will need the 60" shaft at all
I would definately suggest minn kota, 70-80# will be more than enough.
due to the rub rail shape, we normally mount a plate on the deck, then mount the quick release on the plate.

Chris V,
I have the motorguide wireless 55. Do you think it is way to small for a 21’ bay boat? If it is do-able I need to get the plate that the quick disconnect plate mounts to from you. Could you PM me a price for the plate. Many thanks.
Stan

that motor might work in a pond, on that boat, but in any kind of current or wind, you are gonna be on full throttle all the time, and with only 1 battery, its not gonna last very long at all. I wouldnt do it if it were mine.

price on a quick disconnect…
send me the model number
