Scout Fuel Tank Specs

I’ve scoured the net (and this forum) for additional info on the dimension specs for my 1994 Scout 172 DORADO fuel tank.

I’m looking for the dimensions for my fuel tank so that I can purchase a custom replacement tank to replace it. Currently leaks and is the original from factory. I’m on borrowed time anyways so i’m ok with biting the bullet and replacing. Due to how the tank is installed, I cannot accurately measure a few of the required measurements needed.

I’m trying to minimize the downtime of repairs by ordering the replacement tank and making the switch out once I have it in hand. Opposed to removing existing, measure, order & wait for shipping.

I tracked down the specs for the 172 SF (same year and all) but after checking the dimensions I can measure, i’ve confirmed that the tanks are different on the 172 SF vs 172 Dorado.

I’ve tried contacting multiple people at Scout with no success. Tried THT and didnt find anything on the Dorado.

Thoughts? Anyone have a solid contact or even know of someone that had this model in the past?

I have a 1994 center console 172SF and had to replace my tank due to leaking from a cracked weld on the top of the tank where the vent tube connects. The original tank design did not have any clearance and thus the pounding from the console eventually fatigued the weld. The replacement 24 gal tank that I got from Scout was not as high as the original. There was a 36 gal option offered on the SF but not on the Dorado. If you have the measurements of a 24 gal I think it should fit. Just watch for the total clearance issue.

What year did you replace this tank? recent? Did they have the tank in stock? Can you provide a contact name/info? Happen to have those specs?

Try Calling the folks at http://theboatshedinc.com/ always have helped me over the phone best they can.

I replaced my tank in June of 2001. Scout had it in stock. Have had no problems since.

Oh. Gotcha. Didnt realize it was that long ago that you replaced it. Will keep shaking the trees until something falls out.
