Watched the weather all week and knew we would be in for a beautiful weekend. Talked to my fishing buds and got pulled a crew together in short order. Called Phin and he was tied up. Could not come. Told him the Judge was coming, Two Sons, AND we were going on the Freeman cat. Still no go. Mini Freeman and Twos Sons Jr would be on the boat. Do for the kids man! It was like pulling teeth but he came along as well.
Met at the dock at 7, loaded the boat and off we went. My boy Bug Catcher really hooked us up on the intel so I have to make sure he gets credit for this trip as well.
6 adults and 2 kids (7 and 10 years old) on the boat, leaving late had to be back early. No issue for the Freeman Cat as we cruised out just under 50mph on the magic carpet. Ocean was flat and in no time we were at our first spot.
First drop and Billy hooks into a huge endangered black sea bass. As he is coming up we can see 2 large sharks following him… HURRY!! wait… those aren’t sharks… COBIA!!! and big ones at that. We flew around the cockpit to get baits in the water I drop a bait over and BAM!! Rod doubles over and I am hooked up! One of those Atlantic Game and Tackle specials:wink:!
The fish was shaking his head hard but the bicycle reel held together!
The fish worked me around the boat and after a long battle he came to the surface. Billy pulled everyone back so Phin could body slam him on the deck.
For some reason the cameras were put up after this as we focused more on fishing. Caught 2 more cobia in this spot and moved on in search of the grouper.
Checked a number of spots but was late in the day before Captain Billy came tight on a nice scamp. Glad to get the skunk out of the box.
Fantastic Job on the fish and should be fun watching these guys grow up fishing!! Thanks for sharing and congratulations on a great day.Know you had a great time.
You forgot TS Jr. catching an eel as well as a 15yr old head boat style chicken rig. He was equally intrigued by both. Said at one point that, “If we could get more of those old rigs off the bottom, then we’d catch more fish.”
A little earlier, I asked him if he saw me miss that grouper bite. He responded, “Yep. Both times.”
Got to see the boat shine on the way in when some whitecapped chop was coming in on the quarter for the last 15 miles. Didn’t even have to slow down.
Boat never ceases to impress. And the gas bill was very easy on the crew, too!
Thanks everyone. Had a great time!
Oh, and thank you for your help early, BugCatcher. We owe you one.

He transforms a little when he hops on the boat. Usually very quiet and does not say much but put some fish in front of him and he can dish it out with the best of em.
Great day on the water and that boat definitely does what they say. Smooth ride through a chopped up ocean going fast coming home was nice. It was my first time on the boat and I was impressed.
