I have really been wanting to ask this for a while, and then I saw Black Bart’s reply to jimmyadams:
“a spot that Looked like a good place for red fish to hold upon a falling high tide”
How would you describe this spot? What characteristics caught your eye? Don’t want the specific location, just trying to improve my scouting game. Thanks in advance.
Bart summed it up. I don’t want anyone’s spots (well I do, but I wouldn’t ask…unless you’d be so kind …just kidding, sort of). But if you are a good fish-finding kinda dude, what are the top 3 things or so that you look for?

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
I fish along the ICW mostly. I look for and fish around structure - trees, stumps, etc. - also the mouths of creeks, ditches, etc.
After fishing the same places for awhile and catching a few, you will develop an “eye” for “fishy” water and also learn where and when to fish depending on the phase of the tide, wind, etc.
Best thing is time on the water, time on the water, and either hire a good guide or go with a good friend who will share his knowledge…
Go at low tide and look for changes in the shoreline. She’ll banks, drops and other structure. Keep a log of where you catch at different tides. Yes…write it down
If you are in doubt regarding a certain place, fish it at different tides and note it for later.
