see if this helps

thats pretty sweet! is that a homebrew pvc job?

i was going to put a milk crate in the aft stowage, but it doesn’t quite fit, doea anyone have an idea of what might fit within the sides?

its not a real good idea to paddle a sit in yak with the bulhead covers removed. even a plastic yak will SINK if the bulkhead gets flooded. perhaps some foam noodles could provide emergency flotation. anyways you could strap a smaller or cut-down milk crate on top of the stowage?

no, i don’t mean removing the bulkhead covers, teh aft area is shape to hold a cooler or posibly a scuba tank.
look at the top view, its kinda hard to see

PVC YOU CAN MAKE ANY THING it jusst takes some thinking

I betcha a national dairy crate would fit in there. The ones you buy for files are a couple of inches bigger. Check the bp station at wappoo rd.

thanks, I’ll try that. the standard milk crate is 14 " wide, the indention in the yak is 12

are those crates just lying around, or do I have to ask for or purchase one?

I have an Ocean Kayak as well. I had an old milk crate sitting around that didn’t quite fit, but a little hacksaw trimming of two bottom edges took care of that. I basically cut a little taper to opposing bottom edges. It is still structurally sound, and fits.

I went by there today and measured a national dairy crate, it was teh same size as the regular ones, maybee they have a diiferent one for odd size milk.

i’ll try trimming the one I have

I have seen people mount the milk crate setup on a piece of marine plywood or aluminum and then attach the whole contraption to the back of the kayak with either lash straps or turnbuckles and padeyes.

What all do you want to put in the crate? If you just mounted something like a scotty or ram rod holder (s), couldn’t you still store gear in the rear tankwell with a drybag or bucket??

I know this is a different boat, but I love this set up, and I am sure you could rig something similar on yours.

Look into adding an anchor trolley also. There are plenty of kits out there for purchase (like mine from Captain Dick’s)

Or, you could make your own if you dont want to drill holes or if you want to move it around. Here is a portable trolley I made. Two quality aluminum carabiners on each bow and stern grab handles, a stainless ring, and a length of rope that can run a complete loop through each biner and then tie off to the ring in the center:

Good luck rigging your boat!

allready working on the anchor trolley, got that one figured out. I like the idea opf the milk crate so I can put everything in the crate I want to carry(cooler, lures, line, knife, boga, and rod holders). that way I can take it all of and stow it inside the car when transporting or storing the boat. I was just trying to make a simple set up, if Ocean had made that opening 1" wider, it would have been perfect. I don’t know what it was supposed to fit( maybee I should email them), but I can’t find anything that does, its either too big and won’t set in, or too small and slides around

i cut the sides down on the milk crate and it worked fine, sometimes teh best solution is the simplest, thanks xman

Cool. There are few problems that can’t be fixed with brute force, duct tape, or WD-40!

add the bosch jig saw to that list

That rear well was originally designed to fit a small cooler. We actually pushed a small cooler down into pour foam when we were making that plug for the Scrambler XT. It worked what can I say! My family started Ocean Kayak years back. Now, after we sold it, it’s a mega conglomerate, ugg. Spent quite a few years with Perception before the buyout as well.

just finished rigging the boat, i will save the shame of taking a picture of it out of the water, when I get it in, I’ll snap a few. With all the junk I have mounted on it, I might need to bolt an outboard to the transom. I got the milk crate to fit, mounted four flush mount rod holders to the hull, three to the crate, ran anchor lines front and rear, replaced the plastic snap eyes with ss. Installed two in hull hatches( it had no hatches), mounted a soft side cooler to the front.Found a place for my filet knife, x tool pliers, beer cooler, tackle trays, binoculars, radio. Put mounting straps for the paddle and stake out pole. Put safety bungees everywhere. lets hope the thing still floats.

BTW, are flares required for a yak in coastal waters

haven’t had time to splash it, so here’s some pics rigged out
