Scratching my head

Dolphin are one of the fastest growing pelagic fish in the world. One guy posts up his skunk, others applaud his courage, more people want to be cool too and admit they got skunked.

All of a sudden it is because dolphin are over-fished?

That is like saying mosquitoes and no see um’s are on the brink of extinction.

It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!

I remember hearing that about the yellowfin tuna.

That being said. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t think it’s an “overfishing issue”. I think the evidence is out there that conditions\environment is in flux right now (this season). Maybe it will be temporary for 1 year, maybe for 20. Really no way of knowing. I’m just making an observation about THIS YEAR.

Some people can only handle 1 dolphin.

Sounds like every one needs a Freeman to go further and faster to find the elusive fish!

What good are limits on migratory fish like dolphin when they only apply to the waters off our coast?

What good are limits when they are rarely enforced?

Why have a dolphin limit when most rec anglers only have a chance to go 1 or 2 times a month because of work and weather?

Recreational anglers are not overfishing the waters off coastal South Carolina. If there is overfishing it’s in a different region which in turn effects us or maybe it’s the commercial guys.

i believe the dolphin on east side of stream with yellow fins also the stream pattern has change for sc i believe.

If you are referring to my post, let me clarify something. I used to post on this site years ago under another boat name but quit bc I got got tired of the trolls but continued to follow. A few years ago I realized that I was using the information but contributing nothing so I decided I was going to post every trip, good or bad, so that I am not taking without giving. I am way too old to give a f#$@ if you or anyone else thinks I am “cool”. I am not btw. Not even close.

I was in Grenada last spring and the long liners filled the harbor and every place you could anchor a boat...not US flagged.

Thought process ==> many creatures are here that aren’t usually here. Some creatures are not here that usually are… Does that sound like “fishing pressure”? Or does that sound like something else?

I didn’t say anything about “climate change”. The ocean is an ever changing beast. We’ve had years where yellowfin tunas are here. We’ve had years where you could walk across the sailfish. We’ve had years where you could blister the dolphin into July. Now, marlin are showing up in record numbers. Some years are marked by large dolphin. Some years are marked by small dolphin. Some years white marlin are more prominent than others.

Again, just because fish don’t show up, doesn’t always mean “fishing pressure”.

I understood you.

Seems too many want to point fingers at overfishing pressure when a trip doesn’t turn out to a legendary one.

THis is what gives the SAFMC fuel to say such things as Red Snapper and BSB are endangered.

Mdaddy had a good link reffering to issues with YOY fish.

“Why Bruce?”

So in review, is getting skunked cool or reporting getting skunked cool? Heck, my cool status could sky rocket either way.

I appreciate your posts Fortunate Son. Tarpon season just around the corner.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Some people can only handle 1 dolphin.

I can assure you, that’s not the case

In 2000 and you were lucky to catch a dolphin or two, but you would have a limit of yellow fin tuna by 11 AM. Some years they are here some they are not. The tuna are still moving up the stream as evidenced by what is caught off of the Outer Banks.
