sea bass question

hi,
i hope y’all pardon some of my stupid questions, just looking for help.
my first time fishing at mt. pleasant pier, i caught a bunch of sea bass.
i was told they had to be 13 inches to keep. I’m OK with that.
but while browsing the fish identification file on the DNR website, it looks like i had caught “ROCK SEA-BASS” if that’s the case i can keep 20 a day?
i think i need a lawyer or someone smarter than me to decipher that rule book. lol
please help…

There is a difference. I have caught “Rock Sea Bass” inshore before. Recently I have also caught Black Sea Bass inshore. Black Sea Bass must be 13" and the season only opened 6/1.

so am i correct on the 20 creel limit?(n rock sea bass)

Rock sea bass, I’ve caught plenty of never any size roughly 10" … BSB on the other hand if you can get them in season and size limit are delicious

look at the tail…

Rock bass have three streamers and Blackfish have a flat tail

.

NMFS = No More Fishing Season

so back to my original question, and according to DNR website (copied and pasted)

“All Other Snapper Grouper Complex Species
Species Closed Season Bag Limit Minimum
Size Limit Restrictions
Including but not limited to: Lesser amberjack; Cottonwick; White Grunt; Scup; Almaco & Bar Jacks; Margate; Whitebone, Knobbed, Jolthead, Saucereye & Longspine porgies; Puddingwife; Banded rudderfish; Sailors choice; Bank seabass; Rock seabass;</font id=“green”> Gray & Ocean triggerfish 20 per person per day aggregate bag limit Bluerunners and Tomtates are excluded from the bag limit.”</font id=“red”>

so no size limit and 20 per day? (seems to me there are a lot of grey areas in limit size area IMO)

yes you can have 20 of them…but why? most are 6-10", not much meat there

Well, I caught so many my first trip there, decided to risk it and keep a few.
They are actually pretty tasty.
IMHO smaller fish such as this, (more so around the 10 inch range) are better tasting than bigger fish.
That’s why…

I’ve fed many to Grouper. They seem to love them.
