Sea Pro VS Pro Line

This is a apple and oranges camparison, but my buddy can’t figure out which to buy.

Would you rather have older Mercs or a single Yammy 4 stroke?

Both in mint condition, both can be had for the same price… He has rode on both already, and still can’t make up his mind.

He fishes within 25 miles 90% of the time.
Of course he said the Pro line rides a lot better, but it is bigger.

Thanks

Wellcraft 300 Scarab CC W/ twin 200 Mercs

The Pro-line is far far far FAR more bote.

However, the sea-pro has a 2007 F250 Yamaha. Cost to run the 26 with twin 200 2 strokes will be substantially more than cost to run the single 4 stroke.

The mercs on the pro-line are not bad motors, however, reliability wise.

I personally am not a fan of small cuddy’s or walk around layouts as they make me feel boxed in and they slam and wallow on the sides of the hull more than center consoles of the same length I feel. In the larger boats over 25ft, it is not as much of an issue.

The big Pro-line is a better hull than the sea pro, IMO also. Pro-line’s in Florida are kinda like Sea-pro’s are here in South Carolina. Both a higher end of mid-range priced boats.

The difference is just going to be the cost of running twin 2 strokes vs the cost of running a single 250 4 stroke on a smaller boat.

Need to know the hours on the mercs vs the hours on the yam. Very possible for the mercs to have less hours despite being older. Hours and condition (compression and corrosion) are more important to me than age. However, the 07 yam may have several years of factory warranty left. I’d check on that also.

only my opionion of course, but that proline is hideous. that coupled with those loud, thirsty mercs on the back it is a no brainer to go with the sea pro with a silky smooth yamaha.

i’ve had a 2 stroke mercury before and it sounded like someone was standing at the transom shaking a bucket of bolts.

(i’m also thinking that the pro line is really overpriced)

I’d run the crap outta that SeaPro before I touched that ProLine…I’ve fished the 22’ seapro with an F250 offshore and it fishes pretty good. I’ve never been a big fan of the prolines, but the extra length and twins, that boat should ride a little better. Is he set on a WA? Why not get a CC and put full curtains on that bad boy? Much more convient way to fish IMO when you’re talking about smaller boats (Less than 30’ or so)

I’d still take that SeaPro and be glad to have an extra 30 gallons of fuel at the end of the day…

Avatars are nothing more than pissed off smurfs with Giantism Disorder…

I’d go for the Sea Pro.
The ProLine may be a little more comfortable, but they’ll both take about the same amount of slop. You’ll save a lot of fuel with that F250 over the twins and probably get close to the same top end speeds.
As far as having a second motor for a backup, the days that you go to the ledge in that boat, there will be plenty of other people out there to help you out until sea tow or towboat us shows up to help.

Tough one…
If i where to guess you will be getting more than twice the gas mileage in the Sea Pro. If he is going to be fishing 2 days a week i would go with the Sea Pro… If he is a twice a week fisher i would go wiith the Pro Line.

the proline is definately going to be a better riding boat, and twins are great, but the seapro, is going to cost less than than 1/2 as much to operate
nobody that fishes in the ocean that I have ever spoken to, said they wish their boat was shorter, or they are glad they only have 1 motor

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

hey coates; just a thought here; isn’t fishing two days a week and fishing twice a week the same thing? you probably meant to say twice a month but still; that’s funny; i don’t care who you are. LOL

Ya… i’m an idiot.

I’ve owned both brands of boats. The Pro Line out classes the Sea Pro by a long shot. Much better built boat. I sold the Pro Line to get something alittle less expensive and thats what I got. A big P.O.S. Go Pro Line at least you will come home with twins!

17’ SeaPro

Where’s the pic?

Sea Pro all the way. Its going to be a much better idea. Its going to last alot longer than the pro line. And you get a yammy instead of mercs

I agree with Hooked, NEITHER, I have fished both, go Grady, Hydra Sport, etc; name brand boat, even if it means having to buy an older boat due to money.
