Just FYI: Lee Thomas and I are planning to attend Sea School in Columbia to get our Captain’s license. Personally, I’m just mainly interested in learning more and knowing the rules of the road. The classes are on Aug 17,18 and 19 and Aug 24,25 and 26. I believe it’s 8am to 6pm each day. They’re called “fat weekends”.
Right now, the class has 5 people enrolled. They need 6 in order for the class to take place. If any of you guys are interested, please give Catherine Giles a call at 1-888-883-2278 and tell her that you want to be enrolled in the Columbia class.
Not sure of any details right now (where it will be held, etc.)
They are running a summer special, so if you are interested the cost should be $450 instead of $550. Mention my name or Lee’s to them and ask for your discount.
Hope we can find one more. Would be a good chance if any of you have been thinking about it.
That’s true Rick. Pitt Crew will still be represented though. But, yeah…it is on a tournament weekend so anyone interested needs to keep that in mind.
They don’t schedule around our tournaments unfortunately. I wish they did! I hate to miss Clark’s Hill.
I’m going to look at taking their online course. Just need to find out whether or not it’s self-paced. They state you can get your 6-pack in about a week. It would be nice to earn some extra cash fishing during time off from teaching.
Sea School is sanctioned by the USCG to administer a test to prove knowledge after completing the course. The USCG has their own test that you must complete successfully to qualify for a license if you haven’t completed an aproved course / test. The Sea School path is extremely focused and their test matches the course material. There is nothing to keep you from flying solo and taking the USCG test, however, the Sea School program is so streamlined with setting up the drug testing program, arranging the physical and offering guidance through the process that I feel it’s worth the investment.
