I’m going to be doing most of my fishing in the lakes of south carolina with about 30 percent spent trailering 2 hrs either to Murrels Inlet, Little River, or the Charleston area. Any suggestions as to whether to go with sea tow or tow boat? I’ve had sea tow in the past, and never had to use it, but wasn’t sure what was best now. The lakes will be lake wateree, and murray. thanks for the info.
I think both are good in the Charleston area, a lot depends on the franchise operator from what I understand.
May want to look at limits on each one and see which suits you best. Cost between the two is not much different.
I have had Sea Tow for 5-6 yrs and even though 90% of my boating is on Hartwell Lake the place I really worry about needing help would be in the saltwater, if I have a problem on the lakes I can get to a ramp with my trolling motor but saltwater would be a different game.
I have only had to call Sea Tow one time and it was on 4th of July about 4 yrs ago when I spun a hub heading out of the jetties. Mike was about an hour away when I called which was no problem. We launched at IOP Marina and even with spun hub I could make 8-10 mph and we had plenty of beer. We made it back without his assitance but he did call me a couple of times to check and see how I was doing and to make sure we were ok.
I have read some other areas where either of the services is not great.
May also want to check and see who operates ouf of MI and LR before making your decision, in Charleston I do not think you can go wrong with either

Funny you should ask. I had been facing the same problem after hearing nothing but good things about both. I ultimately went with Boat US as I got a promo deal. I am currently at the beach (N. Myrtle) and was out in Hog Inlet when I had a problem getting my boat to start. After about an hour of trying (it would turn over but just would not start), I decided to put a call in to TowboatUS. I spoke to Brian (sp?) who explained that they were based out of Little River so it would take about an hour to trailer a boat to the Cherry Grove landing (you can’t reasonably get to Hog Inlet from Little River). I said fine and that we were safe. I decided to try the boat again and low and behold it started. I called Brian and canceled the tow but, it was nice to know that they were ready, and able to come to my aid.
I have met Steve and his wife multiple times and they are reat people and I feel that they do it to keep us thats on the water safe!!! I know that them being good people is not going to tow your boat any faster than sea tow!! But I beleive from meeting them and speaking with them you would def go with them it seems that they both are doing something that they enjoy!!! Good luck on your choice and I hope your happy with either one and hope you never have to make that call, be safe

Have had Sea Tow for few years - made my first call to them about 3 weeks ago. Very friendly people - all of them. I finally got the motor running and canceled the call, but they said for me to run for 15 minutes and then call backand they would turn the tow boat around. Tow boat was half-way between Charleston and Seabrook. I highly recommend Sea Tow.

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Sounds like both are great. Thanks everyone.
